A Dream came into reality: 1984
The first and inaugural match of the Women ‘s Euro Championship was held in 1984 in Sweden. The official name of the UEFA European Competition for Representative Women’s Teams. This is built to support the growth of women’s football teams. This event is organized under the FIFA championship.
In the 1st football match, four qualified teams participated. Sweden is the winner of the 1st tournament, and England is the runner-up team. This is an enjoyable match and an experience for the audience. This has evolved into the present form through different stages.
Evolution and Recognition: 1990’s
Gradually, in 1990’s the UEFA officially accepted the name of the Women’s Euro Championship and organized different tournaments for different teams. In 1979, there were 8 qualified teams in the championship. It got a little bit of coverage and broadcasting. It creates a great scene of competition and grabs the interest of the football teams of other countries.
An Extensive Development: 2000s
In the 2000s, the UEFA Women’s Euro became a mainstream sporting event in Europe. It gained more investors, partners, media attention, and audience participation. It was going to be held every 4 / 5 years.
In 2001, Germany hosted the event and successfully involved 100,000 crowd. Germany won back-to-back 6 championship titles from 1995-2013.

There are 16 qualified teams for the UEFA Women’s Euro Championship in 2017. It is hosted by the Netherlands and marks it turning point from previous years. The Women’s Euro Championship Edition 2022 was held in England. It was held in a great and iconic venue like Wembley. The lioness of England came onto the ground with full enthusiasm and energy.
